Wyoming Lawmakers Reject School Funding Proposal

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A legislative committee has unanimously rejected a proposal to change the state's education funding model.

The Select Committee on School Finance Recalibration on Tuesday voted down the recommendations made by consultants who were paid about $800,000 to examine a state education system that is facing a significant funding shortfall.

The consultant's recommended funding model would have cost $71 million more than what the state currently provides for its K-12 system.

Sen. Hank Coe, who chaired the committee, says that was too high.

The Legislature convenes at 10 a.m. Feb. 12 in Cheyenne.
