A man who was arrested Saturday afternoon died early Sunday after experiencing a medical emergency in his jail cell, according to the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office.

The name of the 28-year-old man is being withheld pending notification of family. Authorities did not detail the nature of the medical emergency.

He was booked into the Sweetwater County Detention Center at roughly 3 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for an alleged probation violation, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

During a routine cell check at roughly 2 a.m. Sunday, deputies found the man unresponsive in his cell and immediately tried to save his life, awaiting the arrival of emergency medical services personnel.

The man was taken to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, where he was pronounced dead.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the death, as is standard when a person dies in custody, the sheriff's office said.

Further details were being withheld Sunday.
