The Samsung Corporation has decided to contribute to US education, and to generate some interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM. They have established a competition to challenge teachers and students to take topics out of traditional classroom settings and into local communities.
And Friday Frontier Middle School announced that it has become a Wyoming state finalist in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest.
“STEM is all about team work and using the Engineering Design Process to solve real world problems. My seventh/eighth grade STEM class brainstormed ideas and submitted our plan to Samsung. If selected as the state finalist, we will be honored and inspired to help the community with our plan to create a community fridge to cut down on food waste and feed the hungry” said teacher Lizzy Hede.
Frontier Middle School has moved onto this round of the competition for their interest in using STEM to address hunger in the Casper community. Frontier Middle School is one of five schools in Wyoming to become a state finalist in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest. During the next phase of the competition, Mrs. Hede’s STEM class will create a lesson plan to address the issue in an educational setting. 51 state winners will be announced in December.
This is Frontier’s first time as a state finalist in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest.
