Officials with Casper Fire-EMS say a small fire prompted the evacuation of the Walmart store on Casper’s west side on Thursday.

Spokesperson Patrick McJunkin says the fire happened at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the store’s shoe department. McJunkin says the fire had been extinguished by store employees before firefighters arrived.

McJunkin says damage was limited to shelving and merchandise. Following the fire, the Casper-Natrona County Public Health Department found no contamination in the store’s produce.

According to a press release, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The store has since been reopened.
