Children can experience a day in the life of a Casper firefighter this weekend in Paradise Valley.

“We’ve invited parents to accompany their children to see, kind of, what it’s like to be a firefighter for the city of Casper," Capt. Bryan Spaulding with Fire Station No. 6 said. “We, kind of, spend three or four hours with them, showing them what we do on a day-to-day basis.”

Spaulding also said the annual event goes a long way toward educating the public about everyday operations at his fire station.

“Fire Station No. 6 is what we consider to be our hazardous material fire station, so we show them why we need to be more trained in hazardous material response,” Spaulding said. “(We also get to show the children) the fun things we do, such as chemistry experiments and learning about chemicals.”

The three-hour event begins at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Fire Station No. 6, which is located at 270 Valley Drive.

Spaulding said the event will culminate with fire truck rides and a run through a fitness course.
