UPDATE: The Natrona County cornoer has released the name of the victim in Sunday afternoon's shooting in north Casper.

He was 49-year-old Troy Lynn Mabbitt, who is a resident of Casper. The cause of death was a single gunshot wound. He died at 3:08 PM Sunday.

No one is in custody as of Monday morning following a fatal shooting in north Casper on Sunday afternoon, according to the Casper Police Department.

Sgt. Mike Ogden told reporters Monday that police know the identity and the whereabouts of the shooter, but he has not been arrested. There is a reason that the shooter is not in custody, but Ogden would not disclose that reason.

Police say the shooting was reported at 2:26 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Burlington. Officers who responded to the scene arrived to find one man who had been shot, and that victim was taken to Wyoming Medical Center.

The 49-year-old victim was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m., according to the Natrona County Coroner's Office.

Ogden said the incident remains under investigation. It remains unclear what type of firearm was used, what led to the shooting or how many shots were fired.

He did say that "multiple individuals" were involved in the shooting. When asked whether the shooting was the result of a fight, Ogden said, "I don't know if it was the result or just part of the involvement."

Ogden would not confirm whether a fight had occurred at the same location immediately before the shooting took place.

As of Monday morning, no one was in custody regarding the incident. Two people were in police custody on Sunday, but they have since been released.

"We're just talking to witnesses and some of the folks involved, and trying to get to the bottom of what happened," Ogden said.

Ogden said the police department is working with the Natrona County District Attorney's Office regarding potential criminal charges stemming from the incident.

The department "strongly encourages" anyone who may have been in the area and seen or heard anything to contact the department at 235-8278.
