Casper Man Tased, Arrested After Running From Traffic Stop
Casper police officers tased and arrested a man Tuesday evening after he ran from a traffic stop.
Cory M. Beall, 44, was booked into jail on recommended charges of interference and possession of methamphetamine. He will likely make his initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, two police officers were patrolling westbound on CY Avenue at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday when they saw a grey sedan make a wide turn from 15th Street onto CY Avenue. The officers stopped the vehicle at the intersection of South Poplar and CY Avenue.
No one in the car had identification, but two people -- Beall and a woman later identified as Anggie Young -- both gave an officer false first names.
One officer recognized Young from a previous contact and knew she had a warrant out for her arrest. Both Beall and the driver seemed nervous, the officer noted, with neither making eye contact and Beall keeping his hands down below his waist while he spoke.
While officers were confirming Young's warrant, Beall got out of the car and, clutching his waistband with his right hand, ran west across Poplar.
One officer secured Young and the driver while another officer ran after Beall.
Once in an open field, Beall stumbled over loose dirt and released his grasp on his waistband. The pursuing officer tased Beall and handcuffed him. The officer then noticed that Beall did not look like the person he had initially claimed to be, and the officer determined that Beall had given his brother's name to avoid being arrested on a warrant.
A glass pipe with methamphetamine residue was recovered from the area where Beall had tripped and released his grasp on his waistband. Officers also interviewed witnesses at the scene who had knowledge of the meth pipe, court papers say.
