Casper Fire-EMS Puts Out Two Fires Saturday Night
The Casper Fire-EMS Department put out two fires Saturday night, according to a news release from the department.
Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at CY Avenue and South Poplar Street about 10:15 p.m.
Residents at the scene reported a small car was engulfed in flames and its occupants had escaped.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The vehicle was destroyed, and investigators suspect the fire was caused by some recent improper mechanical work.
Meanwhile, another engine was dispatched to a fire in a large trash container at 1455 S. McKinley. That fire had begun to spread to nearby vegetation.
Firefighters were able to put out that fire and prevent further damage.
The cause of that fire is still under investigation.
However, people reported two young adults were seen running from the scene before firefighters arrived, so it is possible that fire was intentionally set.
The Casper Fire-EMS Department said almost 18 percent of outside fires, such as those in trash containers, are intentional.
