Casper Fire Crews Head To Colorado Wildfire
A group of Casper firefighters is headed south to help with a quickly-spreading wildfire in Colorado. Brush Truck 5 was deployed Wednesday morning along with three firefighters, to the "#117 Fire" south of Colorado Springs, according to Casper Fire-EMS.
Officials say that blaze started up Tuesday at mile marker 117 along I-25 near Hanover, Colorado. Driven by very strong winds, at last report the fire has destroyed 10 structures, completely destroyed a sheriff's vehicle, and badly damaged a fire engine. Officials have not yet given a containment estimate.
Local media reports say some 300 residents were under mandatory evacuations, and an estimate Wednesday morning put the fire as scorching nearly 41,000 acres. More strong winds are expected this afternoon.
