Casper residents will have an opportunity to address city council members about proposed revisions to a controversial public indoor smoking ordinance prior to a possible amendment vote next week.

Peter Meyers, the city of Casper’s assistant public services director, says a public hearing on the ban will occur during Casper City Council’s next regular meeting on April 16.

"On Tuesday, there will be a public hearing which will allow people to come up and speak to the council regarding the proposed amendments to the ban,” Meyers said. "The amendments would make the ban ineffective in a lot of different places.”

City attorneys have penned several council-suggested amendments to the ban, including new language that, if approved, would allow smoking within Casper taverns, lounges, bars and private clubs.

The regular council meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Casper City Council chambers.
