Casper could see its first significant snowfall of the season as a strong cold front moves through the region Wednesday into Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service in Riverton expects 3-5 inches of snow in Teton and Natrona counties, the Wind River Basin and the east side of the Wind River Mountains, with 1-2 inches of snow in the Jackson Valley.

North-northeast winds of 20-25 mph, gusting up to 35 mph east of the Continental Divide, are expected along with rapidly dropping temperatures.

High temperatures on Wednesday are forecast to be 20-30 degrees colder than Tuesday's temperatures.

Snowfall could be heavy at times Wednesday night, with a 90% chance of precipitation and patchy blowing snow expected between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 1 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday also has a 70% chance of precipitation, likely in the form of snow, with a high temperature near 22 F.

The NWS issued a special weather statement early Monday.
