A cooperative effort between NCSD Transitions Learning Center (TLC) and Casper College (CC) allows for TLC students who have taken construction class and Casper College construction students to work on an authentic log cabin project. The project consists of two cabins, both at different stages, so that all students have the opportunity to participate in the total process.

BOCES funded the most recent cabin at $33,000. The project is sustainable, meaning each cabin's sales will go on to fund the next cabin project.

Currently, one cabin is ready for auction, while the second cabin is in the framing stages. Parts of the cabin currently for sale incorporate Green Construction materials and techniques. The cabins are log-sided, fully finished with electrical and plumbing, carpet, cabinets, fireplace, metal roofing, tile and windows. The cabin up for auction is one-bedroom, with a family/kitchen common area, a bathroom and a covered porch. It is designed to travel without restrictions.

The auction will be held Saturday, May 5, next to the cabin located in Casper College Parking Lot 6, near Casper Mountain Road and T-Bird Drive intersection. Refreshments will be served at 3:30 p.m. At 4 p.m. all potential bidders can register to bid and obtain their bidder number before the auction begins. The winning bidder is required to leave a $500 deposit, which is a legal obligation to pay the remaining amount of the bid. The auction will begin at 5 p.m.

Members of the project work with a variety of local suppliers and contractors in the community to finish the projects, which take about a year from start to finish.
