Elementary and Casper College students were able to experience justice firsthand at a Friday afternoon mock trial held at the federal courthouse building in Casper.

"It's a wonderful experience for my students to learn how to be better paralegals, and it's a wonderful experience for the kids," Casper College paralegal program director Mary Kubichek said.

Kubichek says the students in attendance learned about several aspects of the legal system during the case of Julie Fisher v. Yankee Doodle Corporation.

"Access to justice, learning about how the system really works, dispelling TV law misconceptions - it's also a public speaking exercise and, more importantly, it's a critical thinking exercise," Kubichek said.

Over 30 St. Anthony Tri-Parish Catholic School fifth-graders and 30 Casper College paralegal students participated in the mock trial.
