Not Much is Different in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Basketball Polls

Not much changed in the new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Basketball Polls on Wednesday. Four of the eight divisions were the same as last week. No new teams entered the polls, and all the top-ranked teams remained the same despite a loss for one and two close calls for another. The only thing that occurred was teams swapped spots.

The top-ranked teams for the girls were Cokeville, Tongue River, Douglas, and Cheyenne East. For the boys, it was still Upton, Tongue River, Powell, and Cheyenne Central.

In Class 3A girls, Powell moved up to fourth, which dropped Mountain View to fifth. Douglas kept the top spot with 21 of the 23 first-place votes. Buffalo got the other two. The poll closed before Douglas defeated Buffalo by four on Tuesday night. Pinedale held in third.

The bottom two also traded positions in 4A girls. Sheridan beat Laramie last Saturday, which pushed the Broncs back to fourth, and Laramie fell to fifth. Cheyenne East was at the top with 14 of the 19 first-place votes. The other five went to No. 2 Cody. Campbell County stayed third.

There were no changes in 1A or 2A girls. Class 1A was led by Cokeville, who gave all but one first-place vote. Upton was second, Burlington was third, Little Snake River came in fourth, and Southeast held onto fifth. Tongue River led 2A with 12 of the 15 first-place votes. Wyoming Indian got the other three and stayed in second. The 2A rankings were rounded out by Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Sundance, and Wind River.

In the boys’ poll, Classes 4A and 2A had the shifts, while 3A and 1A were the same.

In 2A, Tongue River held the No. 1 spot with 17 of the 20 first-place votes. Wyoming Indian moved into second, which mirrored the girls’ ranking. Wright fell to third, and Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Lusk stayed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Just like the girls’ poll, the bottom two in Class 4A flip-flopped positions. Star Valley has won 11 straight, and the Braves moved up to fourth. Natrona County has lost four of their last five, and the Mustangs slid to fifth. Cheyenne Central remained at the top, despite their first loss of the season last weekend. The Indians pulled in 13 of the 21 first-place votes. The other eight went to No. 2 Laramie. Cheyenne East was third.

After a pair of overtime wins, Powell held the No. 1 spot in 3A. The Panthers’ margin was reduced, but they still received 12 of the 19 first-place votes. Douglas, Lovell, Pinedale, and Buffalo also didn’t move.

In 1A, Upton was followed by Cokeville again. The Bobcats were only nine points ahead in the voting. Upton got ten first-place votes, while the Panthers earned four. Saratoga, Farson-Eden, and Meeteetse held their spots.
