Casper PD: Man Sprayed Bear Mace in Apartment, Woman & Girl Hurt

A Casper man was arrested early Thursday morning after he allegedly sprayed bear mace in an apartment, hurting a woman and a girl.

Brian J. Johnson was arrested shortly after 4 a.m. on recommended charges of domestic battery and child endangering.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, police were called to an apartment in the 2000 block of Westwood Hill after receiving a report that a man sprayed a woman with bear mace.

When they arrived, they found the woman holding her eyes in pain. Officers also found a 4-year-old girl unable to open her eyes. There was also a bright red color around the child's eyes, the affidavit says.

Both the woman and girl were taken by ambulance to Wyoming medical center.

The girl reportedly told police that Johnson sprayed the woman in the face.

Police put a can of Frontiersman Bear Attack Deterrent into evidence.

The affidavit says the woman told police she and Lossner were arguing prior to the incident. She went outside for a bit and when she came back in, she was instantly blinded and started coughing. She ran outside but remembered the child was still inside.

Speaking with police, the woman said she did not want Johnson to get in trouble. She also said that Johnson did not mean to spray her with bear mace.

Officers later learned Johnson is currently on federal probation, the affidavit says.
