City councilors in Casper may ask the Wyoming Business Council for funds to help spruce up several streets in the city’s Old Yellowstone District.

City manager John Patterson has asked Casper City Council to approve a community readiness grant application so the city can complete repairs to West Yellowstone Highway, Walnut Street and West Midwest Avenue.

If given authorization by council, the city will ask for the grant maximum of $1 million from the Wyoming Business Council.

The conditions of the grant require a 15 percent city match. City officials say they’ve already met that requirement by putting $250,000 toward engineering fees.

Patterson says the money would help offset costs for new light poles and benches along the reconstructed roads.

Council will decide on whether it wants to go after the grant during a special regular session on Tuesday night.
