The city of Casper will move forward with planned improvements to a city-owned youth baseball complex after Casper City Council approved a construction bid on Tuesday.

Councilors approved the bid of Phipps Construction LLC of Glenrock for the north Casper facility’s third improvement phase.

The company will be tasked with improving general facilities, landscaping, play surfaces and seating at the complex. A new concession stand and two new baseball diamonds will also be constructed.

Casper mayor Kenyne Schlager says, when it’s finished, the facility will play an important role in youth development.

“Council, I believe, is investing in our future by wanting to have those structures and areas available for the use of our citizens,” Schlager said.

The city’s parks division will chip in about $1.4 million toward the project. Private donations will push the price tag to just under $1.5 million.

The city expects construction to be completed by October of next year.
