Casper and other Wyoming municipalities are seeing unemployment insurance costs shooting up. That's what's behind a Casper City Council resolution on Tuesday's City Council meeting agenda urging the Wyoming Association of Municipalities to support a review of laws that should be preventing anyone who voluntarily resigns, retires or is discharged for cause, from collecting unemployment.

WAM President, Paul Bertoglio is also a Casper City Councilman. He says they want to know why, when they follow the rules, the claims still come in.

"The city's had this problem. I've talked with other municipalities. You follow the rules for hiring and termination and we're getting stuck with ever increasing unemployment claims."

Bertoglio says bureaucratic red tape makes it easier to just pay up. With the resolution, he says, they hope to take a step toward sorting the problem out.
