A Casper Police Officer was the victim of a hit and run on Saturday night. The officer was heading to the scene of a shooting when a pickup ran into him on his police motorcycle.

The driver of the Dodge pickup ran a stop sign and collided with the officer on his motorcycle near the area of 12th and Boxelder. The driver of the pickup left the scene of the accident.

The officer was thrown from the motorcycle and was taken to the Wyoming Medical Center. He has since been released.

According to the Chief of Police, Chris Walsh, the officer was on his way to the scene of a shooting late Saturday night when the incident occurred.

"This is a significant hit and run situation," said Walsh.  "We had an injured person laying in the road who was going to help other officers calm down a shooting crisis that we were having. "

Walsh is asking anyone with information regarding a teal Dodge Dakota that may have fresh damage on the driver's side of the vehicle to contact the Casper Police Department (307-235-8278) or the Wyoming Highway Patrol (307-473-3234).

The investigation is ongoing.
