Casper College Lady Tbirds basketball coach Dwight Gunnare announced Tuesday that he has signed a highly touted guard out of New York.

Aaliyah Brooks, from Rochester East High School, was a five-year starter and led her team to the state Class A championship this past season. A four-time league Player of the Year, she earned first team all-state honors following an outstanding senior year. As a junior she earned fourth team all-state honors and three times she made the Section V all-tournament team. She scored more than 1,200 points in her Orientals career.

Brooks is the younger sister of Jerrold Brooks, who earned second team juco All-America honors this past season for the Thunderbirds. She is the daughter of Lydia and Jerrold Brooks.

Gunnare says he is pleased to sign a player of Brooks’ caliber.

“She will make a very good perimeter we have coming back even better,” he said. “She is a point guard who can do a lot of things. Obviously she has the ability to score.”

Brooks joins Cheyanne Balster, a center forward from Natrona County High School, as the newest signees for Gunnare.

Casper College made the final four of the regional tournament and posted 30 wins in 2011-12 and spent most of the regular season ranked among the nation’s Top 10 junior college teams. The T-Birds have been to the national tournament two out of the last three seasons, making the Final Four in 2010.
