Casper College men's basketball coach Dan Russell announced that he would be leaving the T-Bird program to accept a assistant coaching position at Montana State. Russell in 5 years as head coach had a career record of 145-52 including a 32 win season in 2018-19 which included the schools first appearance at the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas in 23 years. Prior to becoming the head coach of Casper College, he was an assistant with the program under 5 years and was a former T-Bird player under coaches Bill Johnson and Doug Stewart. Russell was 2 sport athlete at Natrona County School Football and was the Mustangs starting quarterback at the time. Russell joins a Montana State program that went 15-17 and has one other Wyoming connection on the staff in Bozeman. That being former Cowboy player Chris Haslam. He played at UW from 1995-97.
