About 3100 signatures were handed over to Casper city officials late Tuesday. 5pm was the cut off time for the gathering of signatures from those opposed to a recently passed public indoor smoking ban adopted by the city. The signatures were on a petition calling for a ballot referendum. Those signatures now need to be verified as coming from voters registered in the city of Casper.

Casper Businessman, Pat Sweeney has been the driving force behind the petition and the political action committee, Free Casper.

To achieve a place on the ballot the group needs about 1900 valid signatures.

"Hopefully we'll get there and be able to get it on the November ballot so the people of Casper can vote on that."

City officials expected to begin verifying signatures Wednesday and complete that process by Friday.
