A Thermopolis woman died Monday morning following a two-vehicle crash south of Worland on U.S. 20.

Annette R. Arey, 39, died at the scene, despite wearing her seat belt.

Sgt. Jeremy Beck of the Wyoming Highway Patrol says Arey was northbound in a 2005 Toyota Corolla when she crossed into the southbound lane to pass another vehicle.

Arey evidently failed to see an oncoming 1993 Chevrolet Caprice, and both vehicles collided on the southbound shoulder of the highway.

Henry J. Kumpe, 62, has been identified as the driver of the Chevrolet. He was taken to Washakie Medical Center for medical treatment.

Unsafe passing is being investigated as a contributing factor in the wreck.

Arey is the 63rd person to die on Wyoming highways in 2019. By this point last year, 36 highway deaths had been reported statewide compared to 36 in 2017 and 19 in 2016 to date.
