One child and one adult died while three other people were injured as the result of a crash on an icy stretch of Interstate 80 in southwest Wyoming on Saturday.

The child, six-year-old Anglena Hiracheta, was not properly secured in a child seat, according to a crash report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. The adult who perished, 50-year-old Shelly Leon, was wearing a seat belt.

Three others were injured in the crash, while another three were not hurt. Leon and Hiracheta, both California residents, were passengers in a Honda Odyssey, according to the report.

The Patrol said the two-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 8 a.m. near milepost 85, not far from Green River in Sweetwater County.

The Honda and a semi tractor-trailer were both eastbound when the Honda lost traction and began to spin. The commercial truck then hit the rear of the Honda, which went off the roadway to the south.

The commercial truck continued a short distance before coming to rest in the median.

Speed and driver inattention are listed as factors which may have contributed to the crash. The report states weather was overcast with snowfall at the time of the wreck.

The road surface was covered with ice and snow, the Patrol said.
