Wyoming Driver Killed in Head-on Crash on I-80
A Wyoming resident is dead and another person was injured in a head-on crash early Friday morning on Interstate 80 near Wamsutter.
Michael White, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a crash report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Investigators say that a Freightliner commercial truck was passing a slower-moving commercial truck using the passing lane in the westbound lanes of I-80 at about 2:52 a.m.
White, meanwhile, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu eastbound in the westbound passing lane.
The driver of the Freightliner tried to avoid a crash by braking and steering toward the median. White evidently also steered toward the median, and hit the Freightliner in a head-on collision.
The driver of the Freightliner suffered a minor injury, according to the report.
White was killed in the crash. Investigators believe he was not wearing his seat belt.
Weather was cold and clear at the time of the crash. The roadway was dry.
The report does not list any factors which may have contributed to the collision.
