A man who is believed to have been wanted out of the Gillette area evidently took his own life at the conclusion of a police chase on Interstate 25 in Casper late Monday.

The man who died has not yet been identified publicly by the Natrona County Coroner's Office. An autopsy was tentatively set for later Tuesday or early Wednesday, Chief Deputy Coroner Wayne Reynolds told K2 Radio News.

No law enforcement officers were injured in connection with the incident.

The suspect was driving a white Dodge four-door pickup truck, which authorities believed to have been stolen. Police officers from Evansville initially gave chase Monday night and were supported by Casper police officers, Natrona County Sheriff's deputies and Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers.

When the Dodge crashed into the median barrier between the Center Street exit and the Poplar Street exit, officers approached the vehicle and found the driver had taken his own life. The driver, was the only person inside the pickup truck during the pursuit, was taken to Wyoming Medical Center for treatment, Wyoming Division of Investigation Special Agent Ryan Cox told reporters at the scene late Monday.

DCI agents are investigating whether the suspect fired at pursuing officers before taking his own life, Commander Matt Waldock told K2 Radio News on Tuesday. Waldock said there is no indication that pursuing officers shot at the suspect.

The driver apparently used a firearm to take his own life, Waldock continued. He added that the coroner must rule on the official manner of death following the autopsy.

Waldock said that the suspect is believed to have been wanted by law enforcement in the Gillette area.

DCI agents continue to interview the officers who were involved and review dashcam footage as they investigate.
