The owner of a local photography company says he intends to run for a seat on the Natrona County Commission later this year as a Republican.

Steve Schlager says he doesn’t possess any political experience, but the former officer with the Casper Police Department says he does possess experience as a civil servant.

“As far as why I decided to run for county commission, I retired from the police department (seven years ago this December), and, I don’t know – I just feel that it’s time to get back involved with the community,” Schlager said.

Schlager says he has no specific agenda, but does say that, if elected, he will aim to improve the living conditions for all county residents.

“There are some quality of life issues that I’d like to look at, but, as far as having an agenda or a particular issue that’s in the forefront, I don’t have that – I’m going into it with an open mind,” Schlager said. “I’m hoping to represent everybody."

Schlager has spent the last eight years as the owner of Wyoming Scenic Photography.

Schlager is the husband of former Casper mayor and current Casper City Council member Kenyne Schlager, who is running for reelection this November.
