Seat belt use likely kept a near head-on crash from turning tragic, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

The crash happened at the intersection of U.S. 85 and Wyoming 152 east of Yoder at roughly 8:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Sgt. Jeremy Beck says a car was headed south on U.S. 85 when a pickup pulled into its path.  Beck says the driver of the car couldn't avoid the pickup, and collided with it nearly head-on.

"While the vehicles sustained substantial damage, occupants from both vehicles received minor injuries," he said.  "Seat belts and airbags played a significant role in the survival of all occupants."

Beck says unsafe turning is being investigated as a contributing factor.
