Natrona County School District officials plan to hold a forum later this week that will highlight some of the safety pitfalls children may fall into while texting their friends and surfing the web.

Dr. Crystal Mueller is with the school district. She says the event aims to better educate parents about technology safety and online comfort.

“This is one area that’s a need in our community, to inform people about technology and how to use it,” Mueller said. “We’d like parents to know about some of the hazards and how kids are talking through their texting.”

The event this Thursday at the school district’s special education services building, 500 S. Jefferson Street, will begin at 6:30 p.m. and should run for about an hour.

Presenters at the event include Sgt. Jim Wetzel with the Casper Police Department, Pedro Martinez with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Wyoming, Kelly Walsh High School librarian Tabitha Smith-Herron and several officials with the district.

Mueller says the event is free and open to the public.
