The Fremont County School District No. 25 superintendent says three Riverton High School wrestlers have been expelled for assaulting and sexually harassing eight teammates.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports the wrestlers were expelled for a year for what occurred on a school bus in early January while the team was in Natrona County traveling for a meet in Douglas.

Superintendent Terry Snyder says the actions were "appalling" and the perpetrators "needed to be held accountable." He declined to detail the assaults and harassment.

The Natrona County Sheriff's Office says its investigation has been forwarded to prosecutors. Officials declined to provide additional information, citing the nature of the crime and the ages of those involved.

Snyder says he anticipates criminal charges to be filed.
