No one was hurt when a drunk driver of a van traveling westbound on East Second Street veered off the road and crashed into a business Monday night, Casper police said.

Police arrested Stephen Bennett, 54, for misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, having no insurance, and having an open container in his vehicle, according to the officer's report filed with Casper Municipal Court

Police received the call just before 8 p.m. about the crash, Sgt. Dave Dundas said at the scene Monday.

Bennett's 1992 van apparently hit the median on East Second Street in the 1800 block of East Second Street. It then drove into the parking lot of Brokerage House Realty, Inc., drove over two landscaping boulders, knocked over a brick pedestal of the business, and stopped at the front door of the business.

The impact cracked the drywall in several rooms of the building, Dundas said.

He probably was traveling no more than 25 mph, Dundas said.

Police found only liquor bottles in the van, and no evidence of other drugs, he added.

Bennett was the only occupant of the van. He is apparently homeless and lives in his van, Dundas said.

Bennett was arrested and booked into the Natrona County Detention Center, where he submitted a breath test. The test indicated his blood alcohol content was .20, which is two-and-a-half times the legal limit, according to the affidavit.
