The Natrona County School District is scheduled to break ground next month on a new elementary school on Casper's north side.

“The district has selected Feb. 12, which happens to be Mr. Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Lincoln Elementary School,” school district executive director of business services Dennis Bay said on Thursday.

Bay says Lincoln Elementary’s base bid came in at around $11 million.

“The bid came in under budget and the school facilities department, through the school district and the contractor, is routing the construction contract for signatures,” Bay said.

Bay says the new school will be located at the corner of K Street and Jane Street. District officials anticipate construction at the Lincoln Elementary site to be completed by 2015.

Trustees approved the name change to Lincoln Elementary last June.
