An 18-year-old Laramie man died in a single vehicle wreck just east of Laramie last Friday.

According to a release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Danny R. Pacheco died as a result of injuries sustained when his vehicle left Interstate 80, struck a sign, and then rolled into a ditch.

The crash happened at about 1:52 p.m. on Friday, August 21. According to the Highway Patrol, the wreck was on I-80 around mile marker 317.

A single vehicle crash on August 21st has resulted in the death of 18 year old.

The Highway Patrol says Pacheco was driving a 1995 Chevrolet C/K 1500 pickup eastbound on I-80 when he failed to properly negotiate a curve in the road. The truck left the highway to the north and was overcorrected back onto I-80. During the overcorrection, the pickup entered a slide and left the highway to the south before striking a sign. The Chevy eventually rolled in the south ditch.

Pacheco was not wearing his seat belt during the crash and was ejected. He was taken to Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie where he died from his injuries

Distracted driving is being investigated as the contributing factor in this crash. This death marks the 93rd highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. There were 98 fatalities during this same time period in 2014.
