
Kelly Walsh Boys 3-Peat as 4A Golf Champions
The Kelly Walsh boys golf team captured 1st place at the 4A State Tournament in Gillette over the weekend by 27 strokes over 2nd place Natrona and 38 strokes over 3rd place Cheyenne East. KW's Taj Sutherland was the individual 4A champion with rounds of 71 and 75 to finish 2 over par at the Bell Knob course. Sutherland finished 7th at state a year ago. Ethan Cates of Cheyenne Central was 2nd with Austin Neuman of Kelly Walsh 3rd. Neuman posted rounds of 71 and 83. Braden Barr of Natrona was the 4th place finisher shooting 75 and 83 with his teammate Caden Bertognole finishing 7th with a 77 & 83. Russel Sprecher of KW took the 9 spot as he shot 80 in the first round and 83 in the 2nd.
On the girl's side, Kelly Walsh was dethroned by Thunder Basin for the 4A state championship as the Bolts Maria Farnum carded rounds of 75 and 80 to beat Samantha Spielman of Sheridan by 8 strokes. Natrona's Sophie Spiva took the bronze medal with rounds of 82 and 87. She took 8th at state a year ago. Kelly Walsh's Megan Griffin placed 6th with rounds of 91-94 and her teammate Barrett Lloyd took 9th, posting scores of 89 and 96. KW took 3rd in the team standings for the ladies with NC 4th.
