Cheyenne Felon Caught With Guns Gets 5 Years in Federal Prison
A 41-year-old Cheyenne man previously convicted of a violent felony is headed back to prison after officers reportedly caught him with two handguns.
Chief United States District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on Friday, April 26, sentenced Eric Lamario Mitchell to five years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

According to arrest records, Mitchell was riding in a truck on the night of July 13, 2023, when police stopped the driver, 39-year-old Cheyenne resident Lavelle Brown Jr., for having a brake light out.
The traffic stop led to a search of the truck, and a small baggie containing a crystalline substance and one fentanyl pill were found. A .45 caliber 1911 handgun was also found under Mitchell's seat.
Because the drugs were located within arm's length of both Brown and Mitchell, both were arrested on misdemeanor drug charges.
After further investigation, it was determined that Mitchell had a violent felony conviction in Louisiana and was prohibited from possessing a firearm in Wyoming.
Mitchell was arrested at the Big Horn Motel at 2004 E. Lincolnway on Aug. 16, 2023.
Officers also obtained a search warrant for Mitchell's motel room and found a .22 caliber handgun under his mattress.
Michell was indicted in November 2023 and pleaded guilty on Feb. 6, 2024.
He will be subject to three years of supervised release once he's released from prison.
