CNFR Bareback Contestants Dazzle in Short-Go
Bareback riding at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper was a showcase of ‘Cowboy State’ connected talent in the championship round Saturday night. Wyoming-born Weston Timberman is national champ for the second year in a row. He drew Championship Rodeo Company’s ‘Gunfighter’ and won the CNFR amassing 321 points on four horses. Timberman was born in Casper, rides for Clarendon College, and is the nephew of former World Champion bareback rider and Wyoming native Kelly Timberman.
Thermopolis native Roedy Farrell is also in Texas for school wearing Tarleton State purple. They won the men’s team race over Clarendon. Farrell tied for the short-go win (81.5 points on Frontier Rodeo’s ‘Gypsy Time’) Saturday night and finished fourth overall. Farrell was a 3-time State Champion wrestler for Thermopolis.
Gillette College Pronghorn Cooper Filipek drew the horse on which he won the first round at Denver’s National Western (Vold Rodeo’s ‘Priefert’s Copycat Valley’) early this year. Filipek fought for 81 points and completed his CNFR just a half-point from the national title.
