Wyoming has been needing a lot more wet, and here it comes. Late Monday - Tuesday and partly into Wednesday - from 5/4/26 - 5/7.

A strong cold front arriving Monday, May 4, 2026, will bring significant winter-like weather to Southeast Wyoming, with snow likely Monday night through Tuesday and into Wednesday. Higher elevations along the I-80 corridor may see heavy, blowing snow, while lower elevations, including Cheyenne, face cold rain changing to snow with potential accumulation. (National Weather Service).

How much snow accumulates depends on how cold it gets. The colder the air, the more the snow sticks. Either way, SE Wyoming is going to get wet, and that is a good thing.

Here is some good news for central Wyoming, including Casper.

Central Wyoming faces an active weather pattern early this week (early May 2026), with a transition from rain to snow, particularly affecting higher elevations and bringing cooler temperatures. Expect scattered rain/snow mix on Monday, transitioning to likely snow showers by Tuesday and Wednesday, with the heaviest snow potential on elevated terrain like Casper Mountain.

As of May 4, 2026, there are no active Winter Storm Watches specifically for Western Wyoming. However, a strong cold front is moving through the region, bringing unsettled weather and potential hazards.

This wet weather is exactly what we were hoping to hear in the Cowboy State. It was a dry winter, and we need as much wet this spring as we can get.

Forecasters are trying to decipher the trends which, at the moment, point to a wetter spring and wetter summer. But last winter's forecast was a bust and was nothing like the meteorologist and the computer models had predicted, so we are in a wait-and-see pattern.
