Wyoming Highway 387 from Edgerton to the Natrona County line was re-opened late Tuesday afternoon after several blazes closed it earlier, the Natrona County Fire Protection District announced on its Facebook page.

However, the fire district cautioned motorists to stay alert while driving because firefighters were still on the scene at 6 p.m.

Earlier Tuesday, authorities closed the highway due to multiple fires burning near the road and the work by firefighters.

At 4:18 p.m., authorities opened one lane of traffic on Highway 387 while crews were fighting the blazes.

The Natrona County Fire Protection District was created in 1993 when county residents voted to separate firefighting duties from Natrona County government.

The district is funded by a three mill tax levy on unincorporated areas in the county. Those county residents elect five officials who appoint the fire chief.
