EVANSVILLE -- Law enforcement have taken into custody a man who had fired shots in a house at 291 Fifth Street, Evansville Police Chief Mike Thompson said late Saturday afternoon.

The man came out after a nearly two-and-a-half hour standoff that resulted in the evacuation of nearby houses and people sheltering in places, Thompson said.

People are now allowed to return to their homes,

The incident started about 2:38 p.m. when police received a report about four shots fired in a house at 291 Fifith Street, officer N. Thompson said.

When officers arrived, they heard another shot.

Law enforcement was present at the four corners of the properties.

The subject was walking in thee attic, apparently fell through the ceiling, and officers were able to persuade him to come out.

Emergency medical technicians were examining him.

No charges had been filed immediately.

Law enforcement agencies are executing a search warrant on the house.

Agencies working the situation included the Evansville and Casper police departments, the Natrona County Sheriff's Office and Casper Fire-EMS.
