City councilors will begin a process next month that will culminate with the selection of a new vice mayor and mayor for the city of Casper.

Kenyne Schlager, a Ward III councilor and Casper’s current mayor, says she will ask for nominations for the position of vice mayor during a council meeting on Dec. 3.

Schlager says that, traditionally, after the new vice mayor is selected, the current vice mayor progresses to the mayor position.

“We will do a straw-pull vote on Dec. 17 and then ratify that vote at the first meeting in January to select the new council leadership,” Schlager said.

Ward II councilor Paul Meyer is the city's current vice mayor. He expressed interest in the mayor position during council’s Nov. 26 meeting.

Schlager's current term as a city councilor will end in December of next year.
