City councilors will appoint a new Casper mayor next month.

Ward II Casper City Council member and current vice mayor Paul Meyer will be named mayor during council's Jan. 7 meeting.

Two-term Casper mayor Kenyne Schlager says she'll miss the position.

“Mayor is always an honor, just to represent council and the community and be a part of all the great things that happen in the community,” Schlager said. “It’s a lot of work, and I’ve done it two years in a row now – it’ll be great to have a transition coming up.”

Meyer won an internal straw-pull vote among councilmembers on Dec. 17. Ward II councilor Charlie Powell won a straw-pull vote for vice mayor and, with Meyer, will be formally appointed to his new position on Jan. 7.

Schlager's current city council term ends next December.
