Brutal Cold, Wind Chills to -45, Snow Expected In SE Wyoming
The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service is warning southeast Wyoming residents to prepare for bitterly cold temperatures, blowing snow and poor travel conditions through the day Wednesday and into Thursday.
Forecasters are expecting 2-4 inches of snow, with 30 mph winds causing poor visibility and dangerous travel conditions.
The service posted this statement on its website Wednesday morning:
Once the snow ends tonight and clouds begin to break up, it's going to be brutal temperature-wise. We're looking at temperatures falling below zero for all locations in southeast Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle. Coldest overnight lows tonight will be across areas along and east of the I-25 Corridor where lows could fall to 15 below zero. Northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph with higher gusts are going to push windchills temperatures to -30 to -45 degrees below zero. Coldest windchills expected along and east of a line from Douglas to Torrington to Kimball tonight that will experience the combination of the coldest temperatures and strongest winds. Some ranchers are calving now, these brutal windchill temperatures will kill your calves if you don't protect them. Other folks with outdoor pets, you need to take protective measures to keep them warm tonight into Thursday. If out and about tonight into Thursday morning, dress in layers, keep all exposed skin covered and avoid prolonged exposure. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur quickly, even before you realize it!
