Wyoming Governor Criticizes University President’s Removal

Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon says a decision by the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees not to renew the contract of a former university president could have been handled better.

He also says he understands frustration over the lack of transparency of why Laurie Nichols' contract wasn't renewed this year.

Nichols is now interim president of Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Gordon tells the Casper Star-Tribune school officials have a satisfactory plan to hire Nichols' replacement but shouldn't hire a “familiar face."

Nichols was the university's fourth president in three years when she was hired in 2013.
