Wyoming Federal Judges Sentence Eight Men
Wyoming federal judges recently sentenced eight men for crimes including robbery, drugs, felon in possession of a firearm, child pornography, and illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien, according to news releases from the Wyoming U.S. Attorney's Office.
U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson sentenced Christopher Dean Bandstra, 43, for bank robbery. He was arrested in Fort Collins, Colo. Bandstra received three years, four months of imprisonment, five years of probation, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and $2,640 in restitution.
The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated this case.
Johnson also sentenced Uvaldo Lopez-Trejo, 28, of Mexico for illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien into the United States. He was arrested in Douglas. Lopez-Trejo received time served, plus 10 days, was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment, and is subject to deportation upon release from custody.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigated this case.
Johnson sentenced Carl Vannatter, 30, of Bismarck, N.D., for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Vannatter received five years of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of probation, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and $400 in restitution.

Chief U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Freudenthal sentenced Juan Armando Garcia-Paez of La Mirada, Calif., for conspiracy to distribute 32 pounds of methamphetamine. Garcia-Paez was arrested in Sundance. He received 10 years of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of probation, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and $2,400 in restitution.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wyoming Highway Patrol, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration investigated this case.
Freudenthal sentenced Michael Jimmy Hanway, 53, of Riverton for mail fraud. Hanway received five years of probation and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and $62,500 in restitution.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Inspector General-Investigations investigated this case.
Freudenthal also sentenced Garrett Blackburn, 24 of Riverton for attempted robbery. Blackburn was arrested in Florence, Colo. Blackburn received five years of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of probation, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and $653.04 in restitution.
The FBI and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs investigated this case.
U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl sentenced Jason Michael Nathey, 37, of Cheyenne for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He received one year, six months of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of probation, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
The Cheyenne Police Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated this case.
Skavdahl also sentenced Anthony C. Carlson of Gillette for possession of child pornography. Carlson was arrested in Cheyenne. He received three years of imprisonment, to be followed by 10 years of probation, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment. Restitution will be determined at a later date.
