Rawlins star Sydney Thorvaldson won the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional in Boise, ID last Saturday.

Thorvaldson ran in the Girls’ Championship Division and won by 15 seconds with a time of 16:50.06. There were 198 competitors in that division, and Thorvaldson topped them all.

The only other girl from Wyoming in the Championship Division was Laramie’s Abigail Whitman, the Class 4A Cross Country State Champ. She finished 58th in 19:01.

On the boys’ side, Star Valley star Peter Visser, the Class 3A Cross Country State Champion, placed eighth with a time of 15:31.7 in the Championship Division.

Cheyenne Central’s Trevor Stephen was 50th in the Championship Division, while Austin Akers of Sheridan took 123rd.

In the Girls’ Open No. 1 Division, Jackson’s Muriel Jones placed sixth with a time of 19:05.01. Teammates Parker Smith and Jacie Chatham finished 17th and 26th, respectively. Star Valley’s Jacie Angell came in 25th place, while Buffalo’s Lexi Rule took 40th place.

Star Valley Conner Etzelmiller was the top finisher from the Cowboy State in the Boys’ Open No. 1 Division. He placed seventh with a time of 16:14.8. Jackson’s Ben Williams was close behind in 10th, while Laramie’s Mason Swingholm came in 11th place.

In Girls’ Open No. 2 Division, Sheridan’s Ella Kessner and Abby Newton finished second and third, respectively. Kessner had a time of 19:13.9, while Newton’s time was 19:18.8. Sheridan teammate Kate Moran, Sylvia Brown, and Katie Turpin all placed in the top 64.

Lander’s Kaleb Simonson and Sam Kistemann were third and fourth in the Boys’ Open No. 3 Division.

There were 114 runners from 14 different schools across Wyoming in the competition that took place at Eagle Island State Park.
