Officials with the Natrona County School District say construction on Casper's new $10.4 million Southridge Elementary School is nearing completion.

“We are moving into Southridge the week of Feb. 10 and classes will start in the new building on Feb. 18,” Natrona County School District executive director of business services Dennis Bay said.

Bay says contracting errors have delayed Southridge's opening by several months. Bay says contractors have resolved issues with the school's foundation, which was constructed nine inches lower than design plans dictated.

Contractors have also resolved cracking issues with the school's polished concrete floor.

“The general contractor has retained the services of a different subcontractor, and they are busily restaining and polishing the floors,” Bay said. “(And now) they look terrific.”

Bay says the new school replaces the former Southridge Elementary that was located at the same site.
