Riverton Expands List of Intoxicants
RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — Alcohol-based mouthwash and hand sanitizer are now considered illegal intoxicants in Riverton.
Riverton City Council approved the ordinance expanding the list of illegal intoxicant on March 19.
Councilman Kyle Larson says the change allows police officers to properly police abusers of mouthwash, hand sanitizer and other products with high alcohol contents.
Other products include paint thinner, gasoline, nail polish remover, glue, spray paint, deodorant, hair products, cooking products, fabric protectors, butane and "any toxic substance that is not manufactured for human consumption or inhalation."
Larson says in the past someone could be intoxicated on mouthwash to the point of public intoxication but couldn't be cited under any municipal ordinances.
Violators could be punished by up to six months in prison and a $750 fine.
