Drawing new boundaries for legislative districts in Wyoming happens now that census numbers are in.

A series of meetings across the state is meant to gather public input on the process.

Legislative redistricting starts with public input. Senator Cale Case is a co-chair of the legislative committee overseeing the process.

"Redistricting is required by law, and also by the fact that we have new census data, which shows how dramatically Wyoming has changed and that the old districts don't fit the idea of being populated with the same number of people anymore."

The Legislature's Joint Corporations Committee is holding a series of public hearings in advance of any lines being drawn. Case says the committee wants to be careful not to make any proposals before getting input from the public.

"We thought it would be best to go around the state, find out what the local concerns are with the existing districts, talk about the population changes that have happened, and maybe get any ideas where things should move."

Case says the decisions are important. He says, how legislative boundaries are drawn effects who you'll be voting for as your Representative or Senator to the Wyoming legislature.

The Joint Corporations Committee will be in Casper next Tuesday, June 14th.

They host a morning session from 9:30 to noon at the Wyoming Game and Fish Regional Office and an evening session in Wright, at the at the Branch Library from 5 t0 7:30pm
