Platte County: No Unnecessary Travel

County officials in southeastern Wyoming are asking local residents to stay home and avoid traveling Thursday in the wake of a record-breaking winter storm.

Platte County remains under a blizzard warning until 6 p.m. Thursday, with new snow accumulation of up to two inches expected along with 30-40 mph wind gusts creating whiteout conditions in some areas.

"Road crews can't clear the roads if vehicle[s] are stuck in their way," the county said on its Facebook page. "There is virtually no place to go anyway."

On Wednesday, the county says, law enforcement spent "way too much time" helping people in stranded vehicles as the storm moved through.

"Many of [those stranded drivers] had no reason to be out," the county said.

The county asks residents to be patient and not go out until notified that county roads are cleared.
