A Mills man is facing felony charges following an armed standoff earlier this month.

Levi Massman is charged with three counts of aggravated assault. An affidavit of probable cause alleges he fired a handgun at three people as they ran away from an Evansville residence Saturday, Nov. 9.

According to documents filed in Natrona County District Court, before the shooting, Massman allegedly pistol-whipped a man who was staying in the house.

The home's renter, a Casper Re-Entry Center resident, told police that the man had permission to stay at the home. Court documents do not say whether Massman had permission to be in the house.

The man who was staying in the home and a few other people went to the house to retrieve his belongings, the affidavit says. However, as they started walking toward the home, three shots rang out.

One witness recalled hearing a window shatter and the rounds impacting around him. They took cover and fled back to another house, the affidavit says.

Following the alleged shooting, an armed standoff ensued between Massman and multiple law enforcement agencies.

According to the affidavit, authorities called out to Massman with a bullhorn. He said he was trapped in a crawlspace. Eventually, he left the house before being arrested.

Immediately after the standoff ended, Evansville Police Chief Mike Thompson described Massman as being trapped in the attic and "punching down" through the ceiling.

Evansville police officers searched the house after the standoff and found a firearm, magazines and empty shell casings. They also saw bullet holes in the walls, according to the affidavit.

Officers also found syringes and other drug paraphernalia along with blood on the floor and walls of the house.

Massman's arraignment, where he will enter pleas to the charges, has not yet been set. Aggravated assault is a felony punishable by up to 10 years behind bars.
